Description

Physical attractiveness can have a significant effect on how people are judged, in terms of employment or social opportunities, friendship, sexual behavior, and marriage. In many cases, people attribute positive characteristics, such as intelligence and honesty, to attractive people without consciously realizing it.*wikipedia

Beauty is a powerful word. It can cause happiness, pride, arrogance, anger, jealousy, hatred, and lust. "Beautiful Women" is a show designed to look at women and your definition of beauty.

Paul Vincent Gallery is hosting a one day only event and is looking for art inspired by "Beauty". Please submit all images for consideration to paulvincentgallery@gmail.com.

The show date is TBD.. I can tell you that it will be sometime at the end of July or beginning of August. All events take place on Sunday from 2pm-8pm. All artwork must be ready to hang or the artist must assist in the hanging of their piece. The show will last for one day. Scheduled drop off times and pick up times will be announced. We look forward to seeing your submissions and are ready for another amazing event.

And just a reminder, we are a photo rental studio..Please email us for any questions you might have.

We'll be back with pictures of the space as its renovated.
Hit us up if you have any ideas for classes.

LOWBROW- MAY 3, 2009 ART SHOW

Artist: Alan Peck/ menacingtourist.com

Once again Paul Vincent Studios/Gallery opens its doors to host another one day only art show. Lowbrow is an art movement within the origins of underground comics, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and is often known by the name "pop-surrealism". Inspired by the art created within this movement, we have created a multi-media show that will really open your eyes to new artists all around you. We received hundreds of submissions from all over the tri-state area and narrowed it down to 16 amazing artists. The Studio and Gallery are grateful for all the interest and continuous support from the surrounding artists as well as Hoboken itself.

Resident curator, Tara Thurber, will be there to assist you if you have any question is regards to buying pieces, meeting artists, or setting up your own show. All artwork is for sale.

There is a $5.00 door charge/donation and light food and beverages will be served.

We are also pleased to announce that May 3rd is the Hoboken Arts and Music Festival. So now there are multiple reasons to be in Hoboken and supporting the arts. YAY ART!!!!

Paul Vincent Studios/Gallery is available to rent as a photo studio. Please feel free to inquire about the space while you are there. We have hosted many different events, shoots, and shows. Let us help you put together your next artistic project.

The team at PVS consists of:
CEO- Paul Vincent
Studio Manager: Virginia Kamenitzer
Curator/PR: Tara Thurber

We are located 2 blocks from the Second Street Light Rail, blocks from the PATH train, right outside the Holland Tunnel (Rt.1 and 9), and a hop skip and a jump away from our sister city, JC.

The Battered Bunnies Opening:

Every time I encounter a character created by Megan Gulick, I feel as if I am face to face with a cartoon interpretation of her personality. The first time I met Megan I was intimidated. It wasn't her wide-eyed stares or energetic expressions that threw me off guard, it was her confidence. This pixie-like woman is not afraid to be quirky, she is not intimidated by anyone else around her, and she is above all a wonderful addition to the pop-surrealism art movement.

Megan's opening at LITM, located in Jersey City, NJ, was a giant collection of creatures and characters of all shapes, color, and sizes. Gulick is a modern painter usually creating in acrylic. The display of"Battered Bunnies" was not a story of sad bunnies and their search for the perfect carrot, oh nonono!!! These bunnies were paws deep in bondage, were tied up, were scared and at the same time, adorable.

Tara Thurber and myself, Virginia, were asked to follow Megan's life size battered bunnies around and see what happens when they were unleashed onto a large art loving crowd. The result was entertaining, humorous, and slightly painful for some. Please take a look at our gallery of images... Save them and feel free to share them where ever you can. For more information about Megan, please look below for her bio, statement, and her answers to the James Lipton top ten...

Peace!!

ARTIST BIO: MEGAN GÜLICK

Megan Gülick grew up in the heart of Texas; but as soon as she found a hole in the fence, she slipped through and, ultimately, got as far as Jersey City. Her road there wasn’t a bee-line by any means, and the characters she met along the way inspired a painting or three, with some of the resemblances being (unfortunately) uncanny.

Way back when, as a student at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she spent a year in Amsterdam at the Gerrit Reitveld Academie, studying in the “Vrij Media” Department under Henk de Vroom. Eventually she was back in Chicago with big, big plans. Pretty quickly, she realized that a little elbow room never hurt anyone, and getting sick of anthrax scares in the CTA, she moved back to Texas to settle down as a graphic designer. There, the skies at night were big and bright, the WalMart greeters were smiling, the slow-smoked BBQ was tender and beer was always ice cold. Still, something was missing. So, naturally, she fled to Canada. With a stable career designing drugstore inserts, and a new puppy, Megan thought she’d fulfilled her destiny. But life is funny that way...

One night she bumped into a bona fide philosopher—and fellow ex-pat—whose charms were awfully hard to resist. She made him marry her. He took a job in Jersey and coaxed her back down to the states, using circular logic and puppy dog eyes.
So, here’s Megan today, perfecting her Jersey Girl accent, painting 7 days a week, drinking mid-range scotch and taking diligent notes for efficient subway routes.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT: MEGAN GÜLICK

The three painting series, “Battered Bunnies,” “Barnyard Buddies” and the “Fresh Fish,” are character studies for episodes of the Granny Ninja graphic novel I am currently developing. These characters are inspired from the miscellaneous beasties around me, past and present, friend or foe. My picture-making process includes a mish-mash of layers of acrylic, ink, varnish, hemm'ing, hawww'ing and climbing the walls. Also, in case you're curious: Granny Ninja will be making her debut this October, just in time for the JC Artists' Studio Tour. Stay tuned!

9. What profession would you not like to attempt?

Please stay tuned as we review the day and share more memories...

Between the 18 artists displayed on the walls, the turn out of over 150 guests, and the amazing music of Double Breasted, we at PVS were left speechless and exhausted at the end of the night.
The crowd starting filtering in at 3pm and just kept coming. Tara and I hosted the event, while Paul was behind the bar. People came from NY, NJ and Washington DC just to share in the event. We are learning that the one day show and the new space are something people can really get into.
With talks of the next event to happen in April or May we would love to hear some feedback from anyone who attended to event, any suggestions people have to help us improve our event, or even better, let us know what you really loved..

Email us at: paulvincentstudios@gmail.com

Stop by our face book page "Paul Vincent" and add us to your list to keep up with all of our events. Thanks again...
